Whether you are introverted, extroverted or a little of both getting in state is so important to getting the most out of your social interactions. There are times that being social can become a pain. If we want to stay home and watch tv or if we want to go to that rooftop bar to go all out in full party mode, we must know how to get in the zone to capitalize on social situations. We all vary in moods but if we do decide to go out and be social it is very important to prepare. Extroverts will adapt easier then introverts but the same applies for both.
Preparation in all aspects of life is the key to success. Prior planning mentally and physically will do you more good then bad when it comes to making the most out of your life. Now being in state is a great tool to get the most out of your interactions. Being ” in state” is also known as being in the zone or getting in the flow.
All these terms are pretty similar. It’s the mental state which a person is performing an activity and is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In state, in the zone or flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does. The book flow by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, gives a great explanation of this and is highly recommended. It’s a must read if you haven’t done so already.
In State Tips and Tricks
Make sure if you are going to be in a social arena and it involves important communication, you should warm up. Start your day (if you currently don’t) talking with everyone. Say hello and start conversations with random strangers, so by the time you get to your social event in the day you are already dozens of conversations in.
Get a Good Amount of Sleep
Sleep is so important to getting your perfect body and also being mentally fit. You want to be the sharpest knife in the drawer and be able to make the best reactions to situations within your social event. I notice when I don’t sleep as much as I should I am not 100% mentality. So make sure you get a good nights sleep and a nap won’t hurt either. Although for most, a nap before an event will get you in an antisocial mood or extremely relaxed state.
What you put into your body will determine what you will become. Healthy food will not only help your body, it also helps your mind. You should know the foods that make you lethargic and dumb. A heavy unhealthy carb meal does that to me. Keep your food intake light and eat healthy for the best ” in state” experience.
Read Books and know Current Events
Have something to talk about and be well informed. Reading helps you have a wide range of topics to talk about within conversations. Also knowing current events is key to small talk. I don’t like the news and at times I am oblivious with what’s going on with the Kardashians. Know a little of everything and stand out.
Depending on what your social event is will determine how effective these tips will work. A night club is a different experience then a dinner party.
