How to Read 2 to 4 Books a Week

Reading is fundamental. You heard it as a kid but you probably still disregarded reading book. It was much easier watching television and playing video games. As you got older, life got harder and reality set in.

You need to keep educating yourself.

I am going to show you how you can read 2 to 3 books a week. School teaches the fundamentals but it is really bias on how life really is. You should know now how important reading books are.

If we encounter a man of rare intellect,

we should ask him what books he reads.

–Ralph Waldo Emerson

Barnes and Nobles

As I walk into Barnes and nobles I don’t just see books. I see the great minds and the most intelligent people to ever live sharing their thoughts. Just think the time it took for a leader and educator to write a book of his or hers most prized thoughts.

It’s really remarkable how much knowledge that goes into books. I am not talking about Harry Potter or fantasy books although those can be fun if your into those types of books. I am talking about biographies of great people, how to books, self-help books, or any sort of book that you can learn from.

The book you don’t read won’t help.

–Jim Rohn

why books?

Why Read Books?

Before I get into how to read 2 to 3 books a week lets discuss why reading books is key to your success. You must keep educating yourself as you age. You don’t want to be 35 years old and done. Which means stuck at a dead-end job with a below average life. You want to be an ultimate man with a constant upgrade as time goes by. You want to hit plateaus and learn how to overcome them.

The book Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment is a great read to understand this concept. Great books on how to create effective habits like The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change is beneficial to ALL aspects of your life. I can go on and on with book after book recommendations but you can check out the SuperFitMen Book Club by clicking here.

Great books help you understand,

and they help you feel understood.

–John Green

audio books

Audio Books

Now that I got into briefly why reading books are SO important to your well-being, let’s discuss audio books. The audio book can help you if you don’t like to sit and read or don’t absorb information through reading. An audio book is like an expert on the subject teaching you.

Now the reason I am mentioning audio books is because this is going to help you on how to read 2 to 3 books a week.

The only important thing in a book

is the meaning that it has for you.

–W. Somerset Maugham

Your Commute to Work

Most people have an hour commute to work and if not they have a good 30 minutes they are listening to music as they get ready for work. This is when you should be listening to your audio book of choice.

Let’s say you have an hour to work and an hour to get home from work. That’s 2 hours a day in your car or on public transportation. Let’s say you work 5 days a week. That’s 10 hours a week of time you have to listen to your audio books. Don’t waste your time listening to the radio or other nonsense. Get educated and listen to your books.

Read the best books first,

or you may not have a chance to read them at all.

–Henry David Thoreau

gym time

The Gym Time

I know you go to the gym because you are a SuperFitMan right? You have time at the gym when you are pumping iron to listen to your favorite audio books as well. I know most have their headphones on and listen to their favorite song 20 times in a row but put that aside.

Replace television with music and replace music with BOOKS. So let’s add another 4 hours a week you have to listen to audio books. That is 14 hours a week so far.

You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page

and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.

–Paul Sweeney

Speed Up The Process

Now that you have around 14 hours a week to listen to audio books like How to Win Friends & Influence People and Ego Is the Enemy, let’s discuss speeding up the process. Now that you have a dozen of audio books lined up to READ for the month, try this. Turn up the speed so the reader is reading it faster. Not saying listen to Alvin & Chipmunks but speed it up so it is a little faster.

Let’s say an audio book is 6 hours long. Turn that audio book to 4 hours long by speeding it up. Make sure you are absorbing the material and able to listen clearly. This works great for listening while you are on the treadmill. Speed up your knowledge.

Some books leave us free and some books make us free.

–Ralph Waldo Emerson

Replacing Television

I am not saying don’t watch TV but limit your hours. Pick up a book and create a healthy habit. I notice when I haven’t picked up a book in a while it gets harder and harder to read. The television is so much easier to turn on. It’s just like when you skip the gym for a week or more. Going back to the gym can be tough.

I recommend reading at least 15 minutes a day so you keep yourself educated. 15 minutes is on the low-end but doing that little a day will help you a great deal. That’s close to 2 hours a week of reading. On top of your audio books you are absorbing wisdom of the great people who came before you. I don’t care who the latest pop stars boyfriend is. Pick up a book.

Men do not understand books until they have a certain amount of life,

or at any rate no man understands a deep book,

until he has seen and lived at least part of its contents.

–Ezra Pound

 Reading Multiple Books a Week

Now that I outlined how to make time, let’s get to it! You got a good 14 plus hours a week to listen to audio books and a good few hours a week to read them at home. I am just here to show you that there is time to do it but it is not on the to-do list of priorities for most.

Make it a habit and do it for your well-being. There are books on every subject you can think of! Don’t be an excuse monster! Get to it!
